Kot Educational Services & Tours Ltd
To secure future foundations by facilitating students’ access to quality international education and training.
We are committed to providing an enabling environment to international students through top grade educational placement services worldwide and the offer of guardianship services which provide familiar and sustained cultural and moral values thereby ensuring the efficient attainment of academic goals abroad without loss of students’ original value systems.
Established in 1994 primarily as a company dedicated to promoting tourism and the international education and cultural advancement of the Nigeria child who at this time had become subject to the ignominous challenges of obtaining an international visa from foreign consulates in Nigeria, we soon metamorphosed into a credible Education Placement Agency in 2002.
Originally funneled by the pioneering vision of three Nigerians, our company then known as KIDZ-on-TOUR Limited, soon changed its name to K.O.T Educational Services & Tours Limited to align with its now expanding education vision and goals. Our company is currently listed as one of the British Council Certified Education Placement Agencies promoting UK Education & Training in Nigeria with two of our Directors having been amongst the first set of Agents to take the British Council’s professional development programme in promoting UK Education & Training in 2004.
To date, we have recorded 99% success rate in our education placements in the UK and 100% in other European countries like Ireland, Germany and more recently Czech where we place mostly students seeking to study Medicine. We have also attained a minimum placement rate of 85% in North American Universities and Colleges in Canada and the United States whilst achieving 100% in student placements to India in the special field of computer sciences and its allied fields. KOT is committed to expanding its placement activities to more countries and to this end, through International Education Seminars and Workshops like ICEF, Germany and BBSW United Kingdom, have entered new partnerships for Australian, New Zealand and Singaporean educational markets.
KOT acts as direct Agent to a continually growing list of top to mid ranked Universities & Colleges located in the countries enumerated above in which we presently work. We also work in partnership with other large international education providers such as KAPLAN, STUDYGROUP, NAVITAS, CEG and INTO to ensure a wider scope of institutions are accessible to our students in the countries where these international institutions provide their services.
Summer or Language Camp/Holiday Services
This flagship service of our company is a very educative and informative programme which takes children aged between 8 and 18yrs to renowned recreational sites and some partner schools outside Nigeria, our country of domicile and operation. Under the watchful supervision of accompanying K.O.T Staff and one or two teachers from participating Nigerian Schools, the programme affords participating children the opportunity to meet, learn and interact with their peers from other countries in a world that is increasingly becoming a global village. Since these trips are not only educative but also recreational, it informed our earlier slogan ‘Constructive tourism for a new generation of tourists”.
Participating in these tours not only affords each child necessary travel experience which secures a leverage or advantage for any subsequent intention to travel for further studies or any other purpose outside the country, it also establishes the beginning of inter-personal friendships that cut across tribal, ethnic and national boundaries. Countries visited since the inception of these tours in 1994 have included the USA, Canada, Holland, France and now more particularly, the United Kingdom.
For more information on this service or participation in any one of the slated tours for each year, please contact our summer school desk or visit our website www.koteducation.co.uk
Student Placement Services
Ever responsive to evolving trends from our Summer/Language School programmes started in 1994 as the initial vision of our company, we began in 2002 to place students in schools we visited with our summer school participants. Agency partnerships with educational institutions in the UK commenced and it was therefore fitting and appropriate that by the time the British Council, Nigeria was willing to begin its formal training of local Agents in its professional development program in ‘Promoting UK Education & Training’, our company Directors were one of those invited to participate in the inaugural training and certification process in 2004.
KOT acts as direct Agenta to a number of Universities & Colleges located in several countries presently but our particular strength and emphasis is with institutions in the United Kingdom. As already stated, we also work in partnership with other large international education providers to ensure wider scope of institutions are accessible to our students. Our list of current education partners may be accessed at our website or on enquiry via email to our information desk.
From independent schools and colleges (Secondary & High Schools) to further education colleges (Polytechnic equivalents) to higher education institutions (Universities), we place students according to sponsors and students’ wishes and aspirations.
In furtherance of this service, we do the following:
- Process admissions for prospective students to overseas universities and colleges within the scope of our Company’s partner institutions as listed and updated from time to time,
- Provide visa counselling and support services for all students offered admissions in order to ensure that to a great extent possible, the requisite visas are granted, and
- Advice on the range of living expenses due each student taking into account country, location of university or college as well as the course and its duration.
Student Guardianship Services
This service is specific for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The reasons for its requirements fall into two categories – Legal and Personal Responsibility.
Under the UK Laws, ie the children’s Act 1989 all persons under the age of 18 are considered to be children and therefore required to have a Guardian. Universities and Colleges are also directed to ensure that they are properly cared for and if parents are not resident in the UK then a Guardian must be appointed who will provide emergency contact information in respect of the child and which said details must in turn be available to the Registrar of Schools. This Guardian acts in loco parentis in all such instances as may arise between the child-student and the authorities especially in respect of emergencies such as medical where the student is unable to make the decisions themselves.
Secondly, the Data Protection Laws as they operate in the United Kingdom, safeguards the right of persons to have all personal data concerning them kept secret or private. Any such information can only be divulged to third parties on the express written or oral consent of the affected party. As a consequence of this, parents and sponsors of foreign students are not entitled to access any information concerning their children or ward be it academic or otherwise. Despite being financially responsible for such children, express permission of the student concerned must be given before any information can be given to such sponsor.
Aware of the strong views of parents and sponsors about their right to know the progress and state of their children whilst studying abroad, it becomes therefore essential through the institution of appropriate guardianship/pastoral services prior to a student’s departure to put in place the necessary instrument for ensuring a parent or sponsor’s access to all information that may be necessary for judging the welfare and academic progress of the student whilst abroad.
Personal/ Corporate responsibility
Following from the peculiarities of the British Legal atmosphere concerning students stated above, it is the responsibility of all parents and sponsors of students proceeding abroad for studies to ensure that their investment or financial exposure in meeting the obligations of a foreign education for their children and wards is put in proper use through effective monitoring and supervision initiated via a proficient guardianship service. KOT‘s commitment is to meet this throughout the Guardianship services period.
KOT , therefore with knowledge of the provisions of the above legal requirement governing student’s welfare, rights and entitlements in the UK, has put in place through this service, requisite processes, documentation and things necessary for all beneficiaries under our Agency’s Guardianship scheme and their parents to have access to all the student’s academies records and provide oversight of the student’s welfare whilst studying in the UK for the duration of the Guardianship. Also KOT has set up its international office in Nottingham, England staffed by its International Director, an Executive Director of the company, to efficiently administer this service as well as provide a smooth transition for arriving students and appropriate adaptation to the culture of the host countries in which the students find themselves.
KOT is currently the only known Nigerian Certified UK Education Placement Agency that provides this service officially in the United Kingdom with service covering Ireland. In the third quarter of 2013, KOT proposes to establish an office in Berlin to expand this service which it presently runs in partnership with a local representative.
The British Schools Culture Experience
Initiated in 2009, this program is specifically designed for Nigerian Secondary Schools that wish to have their students participate in an experience akin to the Schools Exchange program. Under the BSCE programme, students from Nigerian Secondary Schools visit UK Schools of equivalent tier or level whilst the UK Schools are in session.
The programme which lasts from 2-4 weeks as may be desired by participating Nigerian local schools, have visiting students take part in all students activities at the British School. They attend classes alongside British students, participate in all time tabled sports activities and eat in the school’s canteens with their host students. Boarding facilities in some of the participating British Schools can cater for up to 40 visiting students at a time.
Interested Schools may wish to contact our Executive Director – Placements for further enquires on the programme.
